Fishing: Worm Glow

June 23rd, 2008

Worm glow is a relatively new concept, or at least one that is finally catching on. The idea behind the product is that if you spray a little worm glow on your worms theyll attract more fish in deep water. I was skeptical to start with, but I decided to try it anyway. Needless to say, since Im plugging it here, I was pleased with the results.

Worm Glow Works!
Initially I thought to myself that fish arent stupid and that theyll know that theres something unnatural going on here. After reeling in six of the finest rainbow trout Ive ever caught in my life, I was singing a whole different tune. It was a tune that sings the praises of worm glow.

Dont get me wrong, Im not guaranteeing a miracle whenever you use the product. There are instances, however, when you can use a little help and this product can deliver. Worm glow just might provide that edge you need to turn a bad day on the water into a memorable one. Sometimes it pays to think outside the box–even in fishing.

You may have seen those bobbers that glow. The technology there is to put a little light stick in the bobber so you can see it better, and so fish might be drawn to the light. The same idea goes here, except the worm itself glows and even in dark water fish will see it better. All I can say is that its worked for me more than once and for that reason I give worm glow my stamp of approval.

Wholesale fishing supplies are a godsend to the avid fisherman. It can be extremely frustrating to walk into a department store and see the high prices of fishing tackle. The big stores do this because they need the fishing department to turn a profit in order to justify keeping it open. Unfortunately that burden gets placed on the consumers shoulders.

Try Wholesale Fishing Supplies
A while back, a friend told me that he was buying wholesale fishing supplies online. His tackle box was always chock full of the things I needed–leaders, sinkers, hooks, lures, rubber worms, fresh line. I was borrowing so much tackle that he finally told me his secret. He directed me to the website of a tackle shop in Missouri, and Ive been ordering from them ever since.

This little shop has all the connections to the big wholesalers and they pass the savings on to you, angler to angler. It really is reminiscent of the old days, when people were in the fishing tackle business because it was a passion. I find myself getting two and three times the tackle for the same price I was paying for the basics. Now my tackle box is just as full as my buddys!

If youre like me, youve got a passion for fishing tackle. If theres a new lure out there, I at least want to try it. Chances are Ill be back to using my trusted night crawlers after a cast or two, but its always fun to try new things. With wholesale fishing supplies, I can afford to!

Fishing: Worm Castings

June 21st, 2008

Youre going to learn a lot about the way worms operate when you take to the task of raising your own, and learning about worm castings is part of that process. Worm castings are the mineral rich leavings that worms deposit back into the soil. It is these castings that keep our earth supplied with fresh air and soil that is conducive to plant growth. Without worms, wed be in a whole heap of trouble.

More About Worm Castings
Worm castings have unique characteristics that make them ideal plant food. Castings hold water very well, which allows plants to use as much as they need, when they need it. They also release nutrients in a way that is well-suited for plants to consume. Think of worm castings as a concentrated fertilizer that is highly efficient and very effective.

Where the fisherman is concerned, worm castings are a natural environment in which worms can thrive. Youve probably seen those styrofoam bait cups in which worms are sold. In these bait cups worms are packaged in their own worm castings. This helps the worms stay fresh and lively for as long as theyre kept out of direct sunlight.

In summary, worm castings are a very important part of our ecological system. When worms consume grass, leaves, and other organic materials, it is processed and then deposited back into the earth as castings. Its all part of the circle of life. Earthworms are not only the fishermans best friend, they are friends of the earth and every thing on it.

Weve all stopped at the bait shop and picked up some of those styrofoam bait cups packed with compost and worms. Styrofoam is a great breathable material to keep worms in for an extended period of time. Of course, youll want to let your worms live freely in their pen for as long as possible. But when its time to take them out, styrofoam bait cups are the best way to transport them.

Your Own Styrofoam Bait Cups
If you have your own worm farm, as many avid anglers do, youve probably carried worms in everything from a plastic baggy to a Coleman cooler. By the end of the day, your worms probably arent doing so well. Funny how it never occurs to the do-it-yourselfer to do things the way they do it at the store. You can go to any supermarket or wholesale store and buy styrofoam bait cups for your worms.

If you cant find styrofoam bait cups at the store, you can certainly order them online. Once you have some cups in stock, you can take worming to a whole new level. Your friends are usually always borrowing your worms anyway, so why not make a few bucks? Selling a cup of ten worms for a dollar or two will take the edge off your slim jim budget.

Growing and keeping worms is a fun hobby for any fisherman to partake in. You always know that youll have live bait ready to go when you are. Theres nothing worse than showing up at the bait shop before theyre open and having to wait around while the fattest fish are jumping around in the lake. With styrofoam bait cups youll always have a fresh supply of plump juicy worms on hand.

Fishing: Fly Catchers

June 19th, 2008

Where theres manure, there are flies, and where there are flies, there had better be fly catchers. The reason for this is because flies are annoying! Its true that they wont have much effect on what your worms are doing, but they sure will deter you from wanting to have a worm farm in your basement or garage.

Fly Catchers Make Life Easier
To most people, including your family and guests, having a worm farm is disgusting enough. Having a worm farm that is surrounded by hundreds of buzzing flies is a plain old-fashioned deal breaker. No one is going to put up with that for very long. You need to send flies a very clear message that if they stick around your worms, theyre going to die.

There are a variety of fly catchers to choose from. Youve got your good old-fashioned fly strip that will snag flies out of mid air by attracting them with food. Youve also got your fly killer poison pellets that will knock them dead almost instantly. Then theres my personal favorite, which is the fly trap.

The fly trap is the best way to go because it will attract flies inside, prompt them to lay their eggs and then kill the whole lot. Its a beautiful thing, and it requires almost no work or inconvenience on your part. Ive tried fly catchers from A to Z, folks. Ive even tried talking to my flies, and calmly explaining to them that if they dont go elsewhere theyre dead. Flies dont listen, and when flies dont listen, flies must die.
